Couldn't you say any company will claim their latest and greatest product is the best, or perfect? Even if it changes down the line based on market dynamics or whatever.

i also have it on good authority that apple's working on a portable particle accelerator and hoverboard. these are in early prototype stages so they may never be released to market.

so what i can do too.

we need that inch bezel border on the iPad. it is a necessary form factor to be able to grab it to work. otherwise it will be a nightmare using apps as iMovie or garageband withou accidentally touching other areas of the screen.

Keeping 3.5 inches would have been a complete joke. So 4 inches they went. Apple even had to saturate the colors on the iPhone 5 screen from previous screens just to show better on the sales floor against the vibrant SuperAmoled Screens. On the sales floor, the vibrant colors of the SuperAmoled just pop and look amazing. Nobody is doing any major photo editing on their puny 3.5-4 inch skinny smartphone screen to require accurate colors.
Tim believes they have the perfect screen size at 4 inches. So what about all those past years at 3.5 inches which they professed was the perfect size. What a joke.
The iPhone 5 with 99% Adobe RGB is the one with the most accurate colours, not the overblown OLED colours that are in the 115% range. And the iPhone 5 has proper RGB pixels, not PenTile as some OLED screens have, including the Galaxy S3.

Of course OLED screens could be calibrated for 100% Adobe RGB to make them accurate, but that isn't happening. Until then, the LED backlit IPS LCD is still the better option.

I wish Apple would get a new product idea instead of just rehashing their old lineup. I know that they need to continue to improve what they already have, but it wouldn't hurt to see something new and not just variations of whats already available.

That is the only change to the body according to this rumour. The story points to an IGZO screen for the new iPad. I wouldn't be surprised by that, and think it also likely for the iPhone. That is quite an improvement, including to viewing angles and especially battery life.

Better be something interesting - they've saturated the tablet market with a series of brilliant products and to their credit they seem to last the test of time and work very well.

The only major issue as far as I see it is that getting those on the iPad3/4 or Mini ( I have a 3 and mini) to upgrade again must be worth it in some respect. As we've seen from the declining PC/Mac market the speed etc isn't a big deal these days.

I might be given gip for this but Apple could do a lot worse than push iOS AND Mac OSX into the new iPad systems now. You'd take the only decent thing Surface has going for it and own it. Sit at your desk, switch to OSX with a keyboard, on the move, switch to iOS.

Anyway.

You're delusional. On the sales floor, the AMOLED screens of the GS3 look dim and dingy when held up next to an iPhone 5. The GS3's max brightness is only 50% of the iPhone 5's. The GS3 has a pentile display (in 2013). It looks terrible and its only advantage is that it's larger.

I was hoping to get the iPad Mini soon, and not spend the money for the current one, however if it is not coming out until the end of the year, I may just buy a base 16GB White Mini and just keep it. I ma just a little frustrated that they did not release the Mini with retina to begin with

The GS3 screen looks pathetic when held up next the iPhone5 for sure. It's pretty bad.

One man's pathetic is another man's awesome.

Myself, I think the Android phones humungous screens look like a joke compared to the iPhone's reasonable sized screens.

If your phone is something that you're using 24/7 a day for surfing the web, constant texting, playing games, etc. I can understand a larger phone. But if your phone is used for actual calling, with like 10-20 texts a day, an occasional game, and an occasional surfing of the web, the iPhone is better.

Bigger =/= better. Sometimes it is, sometimes it isn't. I'd be more worried about Apple if it starts chasing every latest fad. It seems that everyone wants Apple to copy Samsung, but why? Samsung's market share is 50% higher, but their profit margins are less than half of Apple's. Plus, Samsung's idea of "innovation" recently is to introduce an 8" Galaxy Tab to compete with the iPad mini, never mind that they already have a 7.7" Galaxy Tab.

A relatively limited product line has been good for Apple over the years. It was when they let their product line become cluttered that they got into trouble. Apple does need a long term product person, but they don't need to crank out products in every shape and size just to chase market share.

It seems to me that it was Steve Jobs who came up with many or most these new product ideas and drove them home to perfection.

Is there anyone left at Apple who has any new ideas???

In the meantime let's hope that the Steve Jobs treasure trove of new ideas which he left with Apple before he died will be game changers too.

Like what exactly? And how do you know they're not working on some of that stuff right now?

So the iMac made all previous generations of Performas a joke? Did releasing the iPad Mini make the 9.7" model a joke? Did making a 17" MacBook Pro make the 15" a joke?

As many have said earlier, the focus needs to be on SOFTWARE. Personally I think a lot of great hardware came out in 2012, but the software was a bit lackluster, especially with iOS 6.

I like the iPhone 5's design. Having the same number of apps per screen as on the iPad was a logical move, but then again, a revamp with iOS 7 could make that completely irrelevant. If they make the screen bigger in the next year or two, maybe changing the rows-of-icons setup would make the transition easier/more interesting? A bigger screen would be cool, although I'm not bothered by the current size.

Of course, the thing is I'll be buying the 5S one way or another because of the ecosystem, and the simple fact that I think the iPhone blows away the competition. My iPhone 4 needs an update. :P

I LOVE all of my Apple products, I have a Macbook pro which couldnt be pried away from my hands. The iPad is awesome. I want a bigger phone though, and the only thing keeping me with iPhone for the time being is the ecosystem, however I'm constantly looking into all that would be required to switch platforms and I have to say I am close to the point where a new state of the art Samsung phone in the ~5" range would be seriously appealing to me. I'm close to switching, and can't imagine that I am the only one.
You're not. I'm completely happy with my Galaxy S2 with 4.5 inch screen and my next phone will be that size or larger. I bought the S2 over the S3 because I actually prefer the styling. Flat white front with no physical buttons, sleek metal band around the edges, and silky smooth plastic back (why is everyone so uptight about plastic?) The screen is super crisp, colors look great, everything pops. Apps all work fine, 3rd party apps are great (Go Keyboard is awesome), battery life is fine (people need to turn things off).

And before I get slammed as a troller I've been (and still am) an Apple fanatic for many many years. Macrumors is the usually the first website I check in the morning. Could not live without my iMac or my iPad Mini (get one...you will not be disappointed). But for me the iPhone size is now too small. My suggestion to Apple (and you know SOMEONE over at AppleHQ is reading this) is to create an array of iPhones like the iPod line. Give people more choices.
