No, I'm saying that Apple has no competition when it comes to the SSDs in their iDevices. If a third party could quickly, easily and cheaply replace the Apple SSDs with their own, then Apple would be in trouble.

I think you're right that Apple won't change this any time soon, but I do find it annoying. 128 GB is plenty of space for all sorts of creative workflows that would be so much easier with access to the filesystem. Relying on something like app integration with third-party solutions (Dropbox, etc) is unsatisfying.

There shouldn't be a more expensive 128GB option. That's ridiculous. There should be a replacement of the 64GB option with the 128GB and, subsequently, a replacement of the 32GB option with the 64GB one that was moved down a price tier with the phasing out of the 16GB option so that it's 32/64/128. The only surprise here is that Apple have the audacity to think that anyone in their right mind would buy an iPad for 949 dollars when for 50 dollars more they can have a MacBook Air... ludicrous...

Each jump in storage currently is $100. So $799 and $939 do fit with today's pricing. I think Apple knows that people will pay whatever they charge. They give you $5 worth of additional storage and people are lining up to pay an extra $100 for each size bump up. Same for the RAM in the MBP and iMacs. I think it's ridiculous but the bottom line is tens of millions of customers gladly pay it.

True innovation is happening on the App front driven by 3rd party developers...
16GB SSD is kiddie stuff and can be found in Samsung freezers. IOS is not capable of handling modern memory needs as Apple needs to lure its faithful flock into iCloud where revenue streams are continuous rather than the one-off payment for RAM!

64GB takes LOTS of games! For professional use this has proven insufficient "on the road": work related apps plus presentations to the tune of 150+ MB each, AUTOCAD drawings, project related photo documentations, spreadsheet simulations, legal PDF docs, language training & other stuff needed while travelling globally leave no space for private stuff, esp. music. Poor media manager? Agreed in case of gamers, video consumers & virtual (Facebook & co.)
friends should be happy with 16 or even 8 GB.

B.S. I'm an atty and I could load up all my case files for a year and all my games (hogs like Madden) and still have room. I don't though -- only active matters get iPad space. Frankly, I don't want the clutter. 64GB is a lot of space on a tablet, yes, unless you are a poor manager and don't remove what you no longer need or never use or don't compress your large PDF files. How many games for example do you play in a month. Most professionals have 3-4 time wasters, not pages and pages of 3D games.

Try Evernote for a better notes app.

I've spent a lot of $$$ on the app store and found for things I'm looking for, the solutions are either second rate or don't exist. I've tried to figure out why I can find a million free flashlight apps and not one word processor with an equation editor and at this point I'm pretty much convinced the pricepoint on iOS is too cheap to give complex solutions
