Massive PLY file, what software?
This may not be the correct forum, but I have a question about 3D point cloud files and not sure where to ask it.
I have a massive (6GB) PLY file and I can't find an editor to view it. I tried meshlab but the program promptly crashes.. I don't even get to view the contents. Does anyone know of a Mac viewer that will enable me to view the data? Anyone know of a decimating software that will reduce the total point count? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Not sure....
if this can work with your particular file, but I had heard good things about CloudCompare:
http://www.danielgm.net/cc/ Maybe the link is worth a look. I have the understanding this software can read PLY files and exists an executable for OS X..... Hope that helps.... ![]()

Never mind. I see that you have tried MeshLab.

I really want to try this, but there are no binaries available. Users have to compile their own version and this is a little over my head.
