Should i buy an iPhone or an iPad?

Hello

,
I am debating weather to buy an iPad or an iPhone, I'm not sure which one really fits my needs, and I really want to only buy one, its for financial reasons i just really want to spread my work and only depend on 2 main devices, Laptop/iPad or Laptop/iPhone and i don't want to get an Android phablet because I'm too invested in the Apple ecosystem and i already have a lot of apps purchased because the whole family use apple products, if i go with the iPad i will be using a cheaper phone just for calls and texts like the HTC Wildfire S

What I am going to use it for:
-Email
-Reading Books
-Notes
-Calendar
-Music
-Internet
-Apps
-iWork
-Viewing pictures
-Youtube

What i Want:
-Portability
-Big Screen
-iCloud integration (no android or windows tablets)
-Long battery life
-good display

The iPad mini is the device to go for, as it seems.

I have got myself such thing, it took Apple long enough anyway (five years), but they finally did it.

Yeah, get the Mini. Can't read a book on an iPhone, plus the subscription cost will eat you alive.

Not to Bash you or anything, but portability and big screen size cannot come together.

But to me almost everything works better on the iPad except for some games and music-on-the-go. Some of the action games that use virtual d-pads and/or controllable camera orientations can be difficult to play.

If book reading is huge for you, I would definitely recommend the Retina iPad.

The iPad mini is a good hybrid. But Once you see the Retina iPad's eye-melting clarity, you can't stare at the iPad mini for hours with the same reading pleasure the Retina iPad offers.

I see less merits in the Video playbacks and image viewing. But Retina iPad definitely wins in the book reading and e-mail experience.

I own both an iPhone and an iPad, and I have tried the iPad mini a few times.
I sometimes feel that the text and the graphics tend to be slightly small for the mini. Because the UI is exactly the same as the iPad 2 just fitted in the smaller screen with no mini-specific enhancements, hitting specific buttons on the screen may be challenging depending on the ways the apps are designed.
