AVPlayer HDMI out

I am having issues outputting fullscreen properly with HDMI and AVPlayer, the resolution being outputted results in black bars surrounding the image on all 4 sides just like normal mirrored mode. Am i missing a setting that forced full screen tv out in AVPlayer?
