USB 3.0 for an '08 MacPro?
Hello...
I have an early '08 MacPro, and I also have some USB 3.0 external drives. I know I can just use my regular old USB ports, but is there any way I can take advantage of the 3.0 speed? Some sort of adapter or card, or some other solution I'm unaware of? Not a huge deal, but I'm opening up my mac today anyway (something I don't do very often as it's located pretty inaccessibly) and was wondering if there are any good solutions for me. I'm pretty experienced with mac stuff but am not an engineer or anything like that, so be gentle… Thanks! Edit: so I've been poking around and saw a bunch of PCI cards for adding this functionality to my mac. Here's a follow up question: ones that are specifically mac-compatible are way more expensive than ones that do not list OS X compatibility. Is this a case of it will work they just can't say it, or do I need to steer clear of these cards?

For Mountain Lion, instructions are here.
If you have time, you probably want to read the whole thread. If you don't have Mountain Lion, you'll need a different solution as described in this thread. |
