My iPad3 takes almost an entire day to charge from >10 to 100. I am using the wall charger that came with it (and not using it while charging). Does anybody know what/why could be causing it to take this long?

You need to take it back before your year is up. Sounds like a dodgy battery or charger to me. Both covered.

If you're using a 3rd party cable, that could be the culprit. Some cables are really designed for iPhone/iPod charging and don't allow the full 2 amps to flow from the 10 watt charger.

Due to the larger battery of retina iPads, they take a while to charge. My iPad 3rd and 4th gen both take 8hrs or so to charge. i doubt it's a dodgy battery.

I guess we need to know what "a whole day" equates to. 6 hours? 12 hours? It might be functioning within specs or wonky, depending on the exact time it takes ... my 4th gen takes ~6 hours from mostly depleted to full, using the supplied 12w charger.

I have a 3rd gen iPad which I've gotten replaced about a month ago, almost a full year since it was released early last year.

With both of these iPads the charging takes overnight, each and every time. No way around this, which is a true bummer cause this charging issue doesn't exist for say any MacBooks. Am I the only one or can you not use your iPad when it's plugged in and charging cause if its in use it'll otherwise not charge?

To me this is the only downside of my iPad. My friends Mini charges and keeps its charge all day long, something I'm truly jealous of.. But I just can't live without the Retina.

This is about how long mine takes as well. Give or take 8 hours.

I just found out Apple makes a quick charger:
http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD836LL/A/apple-12w-usb-power-adapter

I can't believe they give us lousy chargers and then up sell a faster one. That's pretty messed up.

You're mistaken. Apple introduced the 12W charger with the iPad 4. My iPad 4 came with a 12W charger. Apple didn't screw you over, they just updated their product.

And, yes, it would make some difference. I don't think it would cut charging time in half or anything, but it might take an hour or so off...

Apparently Ipad 4 battery life is longer than Ipad3 because of the new chip but charging time should be the same. Ipad 4 came with 12W adaptor and 6 hours charge time should equal to around 7 or 8 hrs for Ipad 3 with 10W.

Taking all days maybe just around 6-8 hours, since op didnt say "taking 24 hours to full charge"

That's probably why it said 'I can't believe.'

Context clues. I learned them in second grade but I guess it's better late than never, eh? ;)

Context doesn't factor into it. Your statement, as evidenced by all the other responses, was to blame Apple for upselling you a charger that was faster than the one you got with your iPad, which was the fastest one Apple had at the time. There was no indication of any other context, and there was no sarcasm tag, or indication that you were joking around.

Would there be much of a difference in charging going from 10w to 12w?

I've done some informal tests and the 12w charger will charge a completely dead ipad 3 from 0%to100% about 30-40 minutes faster than the stock 10 watt charge. Dunno if the $20 is worth it to you.

they take forever. Fortunately, battery life is very good. Otherwise, it would really suck eh? :D
