Question Is it worth it?

My wife's brother bought a Mac Mini Server but can't figure out how to use it. He wants to sell it but I don't know if it is worth buying or not, as I have a 2009 iMac and a 2010 Macbook.

It is a 2010 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
NVIDIA GeForce 320M 256 Mb
OS X 10.8
1TB

Would it be a lot slower than my 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 iMac with 16 GB of ram?

He only wants $300 US for it. Which seems cheap but I can't find how much one of those would sell for in stores.

Thanks for any advice.

Those models are no longer sold in stores.

It would be slower, since it is a notebook CPU and has no dedicated GPU like your iMac has.

For 300 USD however, you could use it as media center or actual server.

Mac2Sell, Gazelle or eBay (Việt Nam, Türkiye, Česká republika, Hanguk) might be good price checkers.

PS: Your brother in law could look at the following link to figure Mac OS X out, if he has the will to do so:

Regardless of comparison to your iMac, $300 for that machine is a GREAT price. It's mostly 09's and older for $300 on eBay... and since this is the server model, it's more valuable. I say go for it - it'd make an awesome TV PC.

This is a good price. I'm trying to sell my '07 Mac mini 1.83 Ghz for $330 with a legit copy of Snow leopard I purchased. So this '09 server is a great deal.

Great.

Okay, thanks for your help guys. I didn't know much about the Mini line up. Now to convince the wife that I need yet another mac product in my house. Maybe the ol' ,"At this price, we can't afford not to buy it" exclamation will work.

Wrong! It has a GPU (it is even mentioned in the specifications that the OP mentioned).

300 USD is cheap. Locally they are still fetching well in excess of 500 USD.

Well technically it doesn't have a Discrete GPU. The Nvidia 320 was built into the chipset since Apple used Nvidia Chipsets in their 2009 and 2010 Core2duo computers.

300 is a good price for the machine. It's interesting because 2009 - 2011 minis are packed pretty tightly into a rather similar price range due to the low cost of minis overall.
