I opened 10 brand new iPhone 5's and now I feel bad

Hello,

So I decided to go ahead and pull the trigger on an iphone 5 black 64gb. As it's quite an expensive purchase, and given the fact that I've purchased macbooks before that came scratched out of the box, I decided to inspect the iphone 5 at the applestore right in front of the manager.

Upon opening the first iphone, I quickly spotted a decent sized scratch on the aluminum border of the phone. As I've asked the manager before the purchase if I can exchange the phone after inspection if I find any physical damage, and was told yes I can. We then went on to the 2nd iphone, and again quickly spotted a nick this time on the same black aluminum border. This went on to the 5th iphone.

I told the manager that I feel bad since we've already opened 5 iphone with all of them damaged on the aluminum borders. However, she wanted me to be a happy customer so we opened up to 10 more iphones. I had to give up because I really really feel like we're not going to find a pristine iphone from their batch of iphones and I genuinely felt bad for the manager.

After doing a search just now, it seems like what I encountered today is a known issue.

I still don't have an iphone atm.

I wouldn't get anything from trolling on this issue. But yes, we ended up opening up to 10 boxes of iphone with not a single one of them in pristine condtion/scratch free/nick free.

That's my bad I guesss. But yeah, I meant 10 in total as per the title as well. I ended up opening 10 iphones in total.

I didn't expect to go up to 10 actually myself but it was the manager that insisted as I initially told her we'd stop at 5 when I opened the 4th one.

In the end she told me that in a way it was good because at least Apple will be more aware of the issue after all those opened iphones are returned due to the damages out of the box.

Just an FYI I went through 6 phones before I found one that wasn't deffective. So this is not uncommon. Sometimes they make a bad batch.

I did the same thing back in November - over ten phones I opened and all of them had cosmetic problems. No joke.

From someone how has gone through 6 iPhones over a course of a month with either scratches and all of them having screen defects like interlacing or dust, I don't find this unbelievable. I'm surprised they still haven't corrected the manufacturing problems by now. The iPhone is an amazing phone if you get one that works as advertised, but I can imagine a lot of people being put off if they open their first iPhone and having a scratched one.
