Adding Live Video to Screencasts -- Audio Quesiton

When you are adding live video to a screencast what is the best way to get quality audio. Obviously the audio for the screencast come from my very carefully positioned mic, but the audio from my video camera is low. Is it something as simple as adding an external mic to the video camera?

Thanks!
