For iTunes, when importing music, is there any difference between using the "default" iTunes Plus setting vs using "custom" with settings of AAC; bit rate 256 kbps; sample rate auto; channels auto; VBR checked on?

In both instances the Import "details" box show almost the same: 128 kbps (mono)/256 kbps (stereo), VBR, optimized for MMX/SSE2. However, iTunes Plus adds 44.100 kHz to the "details" box.

Basically I want to use the option that has the most compatibility and don't want my metadata (especially lyrics) messed with:
- whether I decide to utilize Apple's iCloud (ideally minimizing upload / download time) or
- have my iPod music recognized by non-Apple players like car music playback systems which (may?) not recognize "Apple Plus" but would recognize the "custom" AAC setting.
