So I'm using a 13" MPB Retina connected via HDMI to a Samsung SyncMaster S27B350

So right now I'm working very intensely with Excel and the resolution on this monitor is driving me crazy. It's becoming hard to read the text and it just plain sucks. Looking to spend maybe $400 or less, and doesnt have to be 27" but perhaps 23" or greater.

I was thinking about one of these.

I would say more fuzzy. I can't tell the difference between "i" and "l" the letters just look like garbage, and it's starting to give me a headache.

Then a 27" with 2560 x 1440 pixel or a 23" with 1920 x 1080 pixel or a 24" with 1920 x 1200 pixel should work much better.

I myself have the U2412M and it is a more than okay display for my needs.

Dell S2340M

I bought one last week at BestBuy. For the price, I can't recommend it enough.

There's no HDMI or built in speakers, but the IPS panel is quite good.

Dell is discontinuing this model, so get it while you can.

----------

If you need HDMI, don't spend extra for the S2340L.

Go to Monoprice and get a DVI->HDMI adapter or cable for $3.

Just to clarify though, only the M model is being discontinued (which is why it's so cheap). The S2340L will be around for a while.

If a monitor is giving you a headache it may be that it is the PWM (Pulse Width Modulated) backlighting.

I've just gone from the U2412M to the U2713H (non PWM) and could not be happier - my eyes are feeling the difference.

check out on tftcentral.co.uk

ps if you are working in wide spreadsheets then I may suggest to take a look at the U2913WM

Awesome thank you all for the recommendations. My transition to Mac here at the office has been eased greatly from the information on this forum.
