Reading this thread is just amazing. Again.

Big deal. Reminds me of those that waste their time jailbreaking just to add some crappy app.

Well, it certainly took a little while for this to actually become news--it's been posted about and discussed here in the MacRumors forums almost a month ago: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1526598

I just don't get how does one come up with a sequence of inputs to unlock this?

I know, 99% they have their own cell phone, but one of the biggest problems of smartphones is battery life, what if their own phone is dead? There are many more scenarios were not having this button could mean serious trouble |

So to break into someone's contact list, there is a good chance of actually calling the police on yourself. What a nice antitheft feature!
Rather than fix this bug completely, Apple needs to detect it and push that 911 call, take repeated picture with the cameras with automatic upload and alert the Find My iPhone user. |

Do not try this trick. After I did the 911 hang up, my cabin is getting shot up and I think they might set it on fire soon. Thanks Mac Rumors.

You know, if people spent that much time trying to figure other stuff out, we'd have a cure to cancer, world hunger would be eradicated, and world peace would flood the lands.

How do people figure this stuff out?! That's not exactly a regular operating procedure required to find the bug

It is a common misconception that people who engage in these activities and publish their results are supporting criminal activity. Indeed, it is likely that some of these people indeed have malicious intent, but I would argue the vast majority of them simply enjoy it as a problem-solving exercise and by posting these tutorials on YouTube they are actually doing a great service for the community, by allowing the responsible party to start patching these issues more quickly. |

No, I'm challenging the notion that this is an easy hack and any iPhone is susceptible. Someone has to challenge the facts, otherwise MR's front page will parrot the same linkbait the other tech sites put out.
