I"m trying to help a friend with his Mac running Leopard. I think his HD was either going bad or had bad sectors on it. He reinstall his OS with his original install disks and that seem to have gotten his computer working again. I'm guessing that it marked any bad sectors as unusable and restored his OS. Fortunately he had an external drive that he used with time machine to backup the computer. The only think he wants recovered is his photos. Some of the time machine backups are probable of his corrupted OS.

What is the best way to restore his pictures to the new install of the OS on the same mac desktop?
Thanks.

He should just be able to enter Time Machine to view his old backups and select the pictures that he wants to restore to the new install of OS X.
