I received an email from Apple this week saying it was my last chance to purchase applecare on my 4th gen 20gig ipod.

ITs worked well for me, but the last couple of months it freezes a bit more, and sometiems does some weird stuff if i try to rewind or fastforward.

It hasn't crashed on me in at least a few weeks, but it certainly crashes more now than before.

Does this mean that the ipod is approaching the end of its life, and would be worth it for me to purcahse the 90$ applecare for an extra years warranty?

ARe the above issues a hint that maybe its going to kick off?

Cheers,

Josh

I dont' think there are definite signs of an iPod breaking but it'd be safe to buy AppleCare. just in case

Yeah, that's what I was thinking... 99$ insurance on a 400$ purchase...

How does the iPod behave before it dies anyway? Anyone?

Depends on the problem- for the HD problems I've encountered:
1) Noisy- you can hear the drive. It clicks
2) Freezing- freezes more often than it should
3) Skipping songs- the songs skip themselves

That's what I've had..

Yeah, I forgot to mention that i'll select a song and it will pause for a couple seconds and then start the next one in the list right after it.

I think I'll go for it then. I use it several times a day...
