iMac 27 2012 or Macbook Pro Retina 15 only have $2200(Questions)
recently sold my Mac Pro 1,1 and Macbook Air 11 both for 2200.
now im having trouble wondering which one i should buy. i can get the Base Model 27" Inch iMac with 1TB fusion or Retina Macbook Pro 15" with 16GB Ram , 2.3GHz quad-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.6GHz, 16GB 1600MHz memory, 256GB flash storage, Intel HD Graphics 4000, NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M with 1GB of GDDR5 memory. im confused, portability is not an issue. How many monitors can a Macbook Pro retina hold? also in terms of performance which machine is faster in terms of photoshop, video editing, final cut pro and xcode? |

The 27 inch imac all the way, If portability is not an issue. Photo, video editing is better in big screen. The fusion drive is really fast and you will 1TB and the iMac has better performance than the rMBP. In the future, if you have some money you will be able to upgrade your ram. Retina can hold up to 2 screens but you have spend more money.

I'm deciding between the exact two machines, I think I'll go with the 27" iMac but upgraded to a 3.4 i7 and a 1TB Fusion Drive. I have an iPad so I can do all my portable stuff there.

I7 or fusion because 2400 even with student discount is too much

If you are OK with the 15 inch rMBP and want portability go with the rMBP. In my opinion, I'll prefer to spend 200 more in the iMac. Depends of you.

Get the RMBP. If you ever wanted a large screen then you can add a screen later. The laptop is amazing!
