Agree, nice shots, they are so hard to sneak up on! Pic #3 is my favorite too.
We just had a run-in with a HUGE bard owl by the side of the road. He appeared injured, and when we got out of the car to check him out, the injured party was really a huge HAWK that he had killed and flew off with. I didn't have night photog equipment, but sure wish I could have taken his picture. I lvoe living in the country!

There was a barred owl in my backyard last night, shrieking like a woman being attacked. The first time I heard one, it was doing a coyote call and it completely freaked me out.
Barred Owl Sounds Of course, we do have coyotes around here... and deer, possums, raccoons, bobcats, etc etc... I love to go for midnight walks in the woods to see what I'll find. |

Cannon SX40 HS is the camera.
That 3rd pic I was trying to focus on the deer through the trees but it didn't work out like I was trying. And she was on to me so I didn't have enough time to get the manual focus to work. |

Great pics, OP. Thanks for sharing. What part of the country are you in?

A prius hit one at the end of my driveway and then crashed into my driveway. All it did was smack the deer in the head and bust it's neck but it totaly F-ed up the prius...as did the snow bank at the end of my drive. I was shocked as how poorly that car fared against a small deer and a snow bank. We made a big batch of jerkey last night from that deer. Chilli the other night, stew on Sunday and tonight we'll have a roast. And I didn't even have to sit out in the cold hunting it.

I went out for a night walk at around 10pm, last night. There must've been twenty deer in the backyard. Alas, I did not hear the barred owl. They do have a territory in the hundreds of acres, though.

I have yet to see or hear an owl. Still hopeful though. We haven't spent much time out at night though since it's cold as crap out there.

LOL
We have had a few that we can identify coming in for months. When hunting season was on, I was instructed by the wife that I was not to shoot "the ladies" meaning her does that come in. I hunt way back in the back of our property. These are up by the house. But hunting season has been closed for some time now. |

Snow. I remember what that looks like although it's been eons.
What a cool visitor too. Thanks Mr. Paws. I'm glad you shared. |
