DVD Player on MacBook Air?

I'm still new to owning a Mac just bought it in Janury. Anyways today I was looking through applications in finder and noticed DVD player. Why is this on a laptop with no disc drive or did Apple just never get rid of it on MacBook Air? Anyone know?

You can still get an USB DVD player, so I guess the app would just help you play movies that way.
