Downgrade X5355's to E5345's

My E5345's showed up today nice clean matching pair of low voltage processors. Spent the requisite 30 or so minutes installing them and I'm quite impressed. My 5355's were ES's so that will have some effect on the power and heat but:

Idle temps for 5355's was 38 idle temps for the 5345's 26. Load temps for the 5355's 48 load temps for the 5345's 34. Geekbench 5355's 10,470 Geekbench for the 5345's 9246. Idle front fan speed for the 5355's 748, Idle front fans speed for the 5345's 521.

I'm glad I spent that $30..

Don't forget you can sell you 5355's for at around $100 and you'll actually net $70 or so

I'm still super happy with my 5355 upgrade on my 1,1 but your downgrade is interesting, especially seeing the benchmarks.

Cool beans! I hope you ran some CPU bench marks from the x5355 procs so you can post up more (and more meaningful) comparison marks. If not I'm sure one of us x5355 owners can offer the compare marks.

I've got:
http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/27602/ibench (Probably the best for this sorta thing)
http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/10081/xbench (Where we can select CPU or Thread tests only)
http://www.coolbook.se/CPUTest.html (a self test w/timer)
http://www.geeks3d.com/gputest/ (which has a CPU (Software) rendering mode)
http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/20748/cinebench which of course may be influenced by the GFX card.
http://novabench.com also has a CPU test built in.
http://www.luxrender.net/wiki/LuxMark#Download can be used in CPU only mode.

And there's probably a few others I'm forgetting...

Here are some, I'm not going to boot into 10.7 for the guru test but this ought to be enough for some research, if you want more let me know. My benches are pretty standard 8 core stuff.

Here are the e5345..

I hope the trade ends up worth it..they are cooler but I can't tell how much less they are pulling from wall. The have the last stepping and an 80W TDP vs ES's with 120W TDP. Running these benches consecutively got the processors to 32 Deg. the 5355's idled at 36-38 in the same room same place.

you need something like this:
http://www.amazon.com/P3-Internation.../dp/B00009MDBU

I'm pretty sure it will give you a good indication of the draw from the wall. I've used them a lot.

In Japanese utility power rates that temperature difference would spell out about a $10 to $15 monthly reduction assuming you run you system 24/7 like I do. And considering that difference isn't comparing the other procs under load conditions I'd venture to guess you'll save about $20 to $25 a month. That's $250 or so a year off your power bill... Not too shabby!

Thats what I was hoping for

As a side note my bluetooth seems to be better?? Duuno why but I can use my MM again.

***EDIT***

Now I know why it seems to be running better and quieter. 5150's had a 65W TDP, the 5355's were 120 and ES's so it was close to double the TDP. These 80W processors are much closer to "normal"
