The Struggling VFX Industry
This is something that is sort of important to me, and I wanted to bring light to it. Basically, studios are imposing tighter and tighter budgets and time constraints on VFX houses, forcing them to go out of business, and forcing highly skilled and talented people to work 15 hours days for less and less pay.
The house responsible for the Oscar-winning VFX in Life of Pi, Rhythm and Hues, has even for bankruptcy. Ang Lee, the director of said film, even having the gall to say that he wishes that VFX artists would work for cheaper on stage, which, in combination with the representative from R&H's mic being cut on stage when bringing up the subject of his company's bankruptcy, has created an uproar. Just wanted to spark some discussion on this if anyone has an opinion. Here's some pertinent reading: This and this and this. |
