How often do you shutdown your iMac?

I've been leaving mine on for weeks at a time and shut it down for only a day or 2 tops

Mine is on 24/ 7 unless it requires a reboot for software updates...been doing it through all of them and I've never had any issues.

My iMac had 50.000 hours uptime before it blew up (and came back to life). Never once shut it down (except for when upgrading the OS).

My primary iMac is on 24/7 and only gets put to sleep when I'm not using it. My other iMac is turned off most of the time and only in use a few times per week.

I leave mine on 24/7, don't even sleep it.

Forget why I had to restart a few days ago, think I was having wifi problems.

I let mine fall asleep on it's own, but sleep the display with a hot corner if I am not going to be using it for a bit. I ran mine for a month without restarting, but usually only restart my Macs for a few reasons: software update, moving something around on my desk, toddler pressing the power strip switch, or Memory page outs. That last one isnt an issue on my MacBook now that it has 8 Gigs, and my new iMac has 16.

I leave any computer I use on 24/7. My PC Gaming rig (Intel i7 3930k @ 4.3Ghz, 2 x GTX 680's in SLI) stays on 24/7 as does any Mac I have. My ol' G4 MacMini was on 24/7 for over 7 years and only got turned off in the last few weeks, because the family member who used it got my early 2009 iMac (on 24/7) as a replacement. Now my late 2012 iMac is staying on 24/7.

Computer hardware shouldn't have an issue when it comes to leaving it on 24/7. The only reason to really turn it off when not in use would be to save some power, but even then the power usage is quite minimal when the computer is in sleep anyways. However, I would turn off the computer if going on a trip or not using the computer for more than a few days.

Shut down rarely and for updates (as needed). Use the "sleep" function when I know I won't be accessing my iMac for awhile. Otherwise I just turn off my display by keyboard shortcut.

What do load averages mean? mine are 8.38, 7.92, 5.91.

It's a measure of how much work the computer is doing over the last 1, 5, and 15 minutes, as a moving average.

I have a 2010 imac and i turn it off every night it may take a couple of min to load the next day, but i am that kind of person who hates leaving things on during the nights. Besides i am saving the environment by conserving power.
