Up until a few weeks ago, it played DVD's fine -- but recently, every time I pop in a DVD, I get the following error message:

I've got an LG external DVD 'Super Multi Drive' model #GP08NU6B, and I'm running 10.6.8 on a 2007 Macbook. Any ideas?

You're getting that because DVD Player looks for connected internal DVD drives. There is a modification you can do to one of the DVD frameworks that makes DVD Player look for connected external drives.

It worked up until a few weeks ago. My internal DVD drive had been replaced with a hard drive, FYI.

The same external DVD player also works with my friend's 2007 Macbook -- so I think it's a software related issue.

What's this modification to the DVD framework? I'll try it.

You may have to restart your machine. I know it took me a few tries to get it working via an external drive as well.
