Welcome to Photo of the Day. The POTD thread was started by iGary in May, 2006 and converted to a monthly thread in November 2007 by Arn. POTD is one of the most popular picture groups on MacRumors, often exceeding 500 posts and 20,000 views per month.

Photo of the Day is intended to be a showcase for your best pictures. There is no limit to your gear, just your imagination. P&S and film cameras are welcome along with DSLRs. There are no themes like the Fortnightly Challenge and Weekly Contest, and no winners (or losers) either.

** To see all of our past POTD threads please see the sticky thread here **

What an amazing scene! The balance of this photo is incredible. Have you ever thought of publishing a book of your landscape photos?

What a great compliment. Thanks, Ish. After that, if I get no other comments this month, I'll still be happy. ;) Seriously, though, yes I have every intention of doing a book, but I'm still preparing content for it. I need to deepen my portfolio a bit first to meet my goals, and I have been trying very hard to do that. Alas, it would be a lot easier if I had an investor with deep pockets and a magic wand to control the weather. I don't want to rush into anything; my dream is to spring out into the world fully formed, like Athena from the head of Zeus. :)

P.S. Anyone with blank wall space can support this project by purchasing prints from my site (link in my signature). ;)

Just wanted to say I enjoy this shot. I smile every time I look at it. Its the whimsey of the "cow" that makes me laugh! Good on you for the capture and good on the people who created that works of art ! Happy March folks. I cant believe you have daffodils. They're a month plus away here!

Hey,

I captured this shot of South Shields beach (NE England) last Wednesday night so ok technically its a Feb shot... Just got round to post editing and was really quite impressed with how beautiful it makes my towns coast look!

The bright light you see is one of the river Tyne's two lighthouses, just to its right you can see the red light of its second. There was an unusually high number of ships moored up for the night too and with the fantastic clear sky paired with the very low band of fog over the sea this photo came out great!

Shot with a Nikon D3100 and 18-55 kit lens @ 18mm, f/5.6, 30 seconds ISO 400

I Hope you like it!

I was going to do a big write up on my experiences with my new camera (6D) but I don't know if it's something that would be of interest.

Anyway I have done a full month with it now and it's been half way across the world and back and it seems to be coping well!

This is one of the first shots I took and I was very excited to experiment with ISO 12800 something that would not have been possible on my previous camera.

You might find this article by Peter Cox about how he used Kickstarter to fund a book of his landscape photographs of interest. The book has been very successful and is now on its second print run.

Chicago in Cloud

I was looking through some pictures that I took in Chicago last year. I picked one for this week's photo competition, but wanted to share this one too.

Thanks Barry, she has some sisters too but not quite so whimsical. The area is around an oak tree that had a new part of the shopping centre built round it so it's a bit warmer than the ambient temperature. Most daffodils are around a month away here too, just aconites, snowdrops and a few early crocuses at the moment.

It's a bit of a challenging time to take photos. Even the green grass is looking a bit colourless and the sky has been mostly uniformly grey for what seems like ages. It's all a bit insipid and lacking in contrast, though it should pick up this month. I was so desperate I even took a photo of the mud!

LOL, then I won't ask! :)
