Anyone know what lens to use to create these photos?
Anyone like to hazard a guess?

It's just a wide angle. How wide though? I'd guess maybe 21mm, probably 18mm, on a FF camera.
I use a 24mm and it doesn't go wide enough to give the curvature shown in these pictures, so that's what I'm basing my guess on. Last edited by Attonine; Mar 14, 2013 at 06:19 AM. Reason: clarifying ff! |

I'm guessing even wider than that. At least for the first one.
On APS-C, the 11-16mm f2.8 Tokina will get you close. (I like this lens a lot!) On FF, the 17-40mm L (decent on FF, not so great on APS-C, imo) or 16-35mm L or 14-24mm Nikon are the best bets for a similar look. The 14mm f2.8 L II is a nice lens, too, and the Samyang 14mm f2.8 is excellent if you can correct the mustache distortion in Photoshop! Haven't used the others. (Actually I haven't used the 14-24mm Nikon, either, but have heard raves from everyone who has.) |

If you can estimate the angle of view, and certainly the top one seems to be about 90º top to bottom, you can "reverse lookup" what focal length lense was used.

Top image looks very similar to the effect from putting my tokina 11-16mm on my 6D.
Bottom as said before looks to be tighter at maybe 24-30mm f1.4/1.8 |

The top photo looks similar to a Tokina 11-16 mounted on my 7D from that angle.

Just tried the last one on my shoe: a 24/28mm 2.8 delivers a similar fuzzy background. Remember that this shot is focussed extremely close. 1.4 is absolutely not needed for this.

Okay since this is about guessing -
somewhere around a 21mm on a full frame camera. The camera is very close to the subject on front and the lens is tilted giving the barrel distortion in the background as well as typical curvature. Light seems to be coming from above, behind and in front. I think it could be also a 24 that suffered from the tilt of the lens. |

I say they used a tilt lens with minimal settings.

Looks like what comes out of my GoPro. But I have no idea what type of lens is on it.
