rMBP 15 Freezes when connected VIA USB

tittle says it all, when plugging in a USB blutooth dongle for a wireless mouse, its perfect but when connecting various external HDD's, it locks up for about 10 secs? anyone have this issue before?
 
No issues here. Mine is two days old, hadn't tested this until I saw your thread. Works fine though. External drive is formatted HFS/Journaled.
 
Is your HD newer? Older models have slower start up speeds or are not designated for a Mac.

its a seagate 2.5 inch laptop drive that i took out of a trashed windows laptop, i bought a USB enclosure and has been fine then. theres no freeze on my MBA but i get it on rMBP
