I suppose it would be helpful to know what a UDID is...

Oh, so this is what it is:

"Each iPhone or iPod Touch has a Unique Device Identifier (UDID), which is a sequence of 40 letters and numbers that is specific to your device. It’s like a serial number but much harder to guess. It will look something like this: 2b6f0cc904d137be2e1730235f5664094b831186."

How is this different from, or better than, all the "find your udid" apps we can get from the App Store?

I'll just click on the device serial number in iTunes. It's instant, it's free and it's fast.

For starters you don't have to install anything on the App Store.

Instead you have to install a new profile on your device. I only hook up to iTunes when I perform a full backup prior to upgrading iOS so I appreciate alternative options, but free UDID apps in the App Store are equally as painless.
