10.8.2 Freeze after power-up from dead battery

My MacBook Pro is experiencing freezes immediately after powering up from a dead battery, and will not allow me to use the trackpad or type in my password for several minutes.

10.8.2 / 2012 17" MBP / 16GB RAM / 2.4 GHz.

Are there any logs I can open / read to see what the hangup is?

Use console, it usually records unexpected errors and events.
