My Macbook Retina has been freezing pretty much every day lately, sometimes twice. I haven't been able to establish any particular bit of software or pattern causing it.

I'm running the latest update (10.7.5)

I can't see any kernel panics in the logs, and as I say, the mouse pointer can still be moved. Keyboard shortcuts don't though, so I can't scroll through running apps with cmd-tab, or get to the finder to see if I can force any apps to shutdown.

Can anyone suggest things to check pls, before I go through the rigmarole of taking it to a 'Genius', only to be without by $3000 dollar machine for a week!

The only thing I can think of, is to recommend to go to the apple store.

Maybe try reinstalling OSX without restoring your data to see if its something along those lines.
