Is there a "perfect" 2012 27-inch iMac

I know the saying "nothing is perfect," but this is ridiculous. So far I have bought 4 2012 27-inch iMacs with varying problems.

1st - dead pixels

2nd - dead pixel in upper right corner; small "nick" on the back of the case

3rd - dead pixels

4th (current) - NO dead pixels, but a small "nick" between the glass and the aluminum case on the right side of the monitor

I would hope that Apple's quality control gets better over time. I have returned the first three iMacs because I will not stand for dead pixels. Some of the nocks and dings may be the result of manufacturing. In any case I may keep the iMac I currently have. There are minor imperfections that may not bother some people, but the iMac is a very expensive piece of equipment.

Sorry for your run of bad luck but the 27" iMac I got about 2 months ago (ordered Dec 1st) and as far as I can tell all is well. Touch wood.

No dead pixels and no case damage. The biggest problem I've had is slow access to my external HDDs, slow to 'wake up' because I have 5 HDDs and I guess they all have to wake up?

Welcome to the New Era... of erratic quality control at Apple.

I'm waiting patiently while watching to see if their are any signs of improvement. In general, Apples influence over their buyers causes most to ignore the problem.

It's an amazing phenomenon. Most companies are held responsible. Apple operates nearly consequence free.

I ordered mine on 30th Nov '12 [3.4ghz, 32Gb, 685, 3TB Fusion], received on 27th Dec and the only issue to date was it self switching on at random times a few weeks ago - this turned out to be low batteries in the keyboard, all is good now though.

Walked into my local Apple Store, walked out with a 27" with 1 TB Fusion drive. No dead pixels, no nicks that I've noticed, some light bleed but the only time I've noticed it is when I specifically tested for it at max brightness. Dead quiet, but I do have 32 GB of ram so I load every program that I use on a regular basis and the hard drive is essentially not used until changes are saved. Even then, I can't tell when the writes happen. Maybe I'm lucky, or maybe I'm just not very picky.

Uhm, there is no computer manufacturer that guarantees 0 dead pixels, and with most you won't get a replacement unless you really have multiple screen defects. One can argue about Apple quality control, but dead pixels are officially an 'acceptable' issue.

My iMac is closely perfect, it has a light yellow gradient, but really really light, and with a color calibration, my screen is wonderful.
So i have nothing to beef about!

Your iMac situation sounds like my iPhone 5 situation. I've been through a few now and not one wasn't slightly damaged straight out of the box. That said, I believe I recently got a perfect 27" iMac so I'm happy with that!

My screen is perfect, no problems no noise or issues what so ever. However, I will be exchanging it for a i7 / 680mx

is the i7 worth the upgrade?

Just wondering if the HT capabilities with the i7 makes sense - not a gamer here, just running Office VMWare Itunes iPhoto and IBM Notes.

Thanks in advance!
