Sleep wake button issues

Hey everyone,

My sleep wake button doesn't work to push. . . .instead it decides to turn my iPad off whenever it wants. Mid use. . The iPad will go to sleep and the "slide to turn off" thing will come up.

Is there a way to completely disable the sleep wake button?

Or do you think I should stick a knife in and pop it out?
