Only 'Early 2013' rMBP 15" LCD model & IR test

This poll is for the LCD model & Image Retention test of ONLY the 2nd revision (Early 2013) Retina MBP 15".

Step1-Identify LCD:
Open Terminal and copy-paste
ioreg -lw0 | grep \"EDID\" | sed "/[^<]*</s///" | xxd -p -r | strings -6

LP154WT1-SJA2 (=LG 2nd revision)
LP154WT1-SJA1 (=LG 1st revision)
LSN154YL01001 (=Samsung)

Step2-Test for IR:
http://www.mitchmalone.name/retina-test/

Important! Make sure that you follow Mitch Malone's guide to the letter.
How do I best use this test? under FAQ, especially the last part about stressing/heating up the GPU.
I used http://www.geeks3d.com/gputest/ running in the background before & during the IR test (FurMark on a low resolution, with fan speeds on full just to be on the safe side) or any other stress test you are comfortable with and repeated the test twice.

Post your results.

LP154WT1-SJA2 here and no IR (so far).

SJA2 and no IR after 10 minute test, but a day later my MBPr needed a system restore after hanging on the grey screen on startup.

Unacceptable after spending over 2500 on a new machine.

I totally agree with you.

Although no IR in my SJA2 so far, the computer chassis is making creaking noises on the left side, unacceptable for $3.5K laptop.

Apple quality control is not up to the high standard it should be, for the amount of money they charge.

LP154WT1-SJA1 for my first MacBook Pro 15.4 Retina (september). IR comes six month later... I didn't know it can last so long before it happens. So, don't be too happy if your LG panel seems to be IR free !

I have ordered a second for office (2.7 GHz, 16 GB, 256 GB). Hope I will get Samsung panel. If not, I send it back and reorder until I get Samsung screen. I do not want to have the IR issue once again.

I will answer the poll later, when I will get the new one.

So Samsung is still around on the Early 2013 rMBP's?

I have an early 2013 rMBP with the SJA1 panel. I didn't notice too much IR when I first bought it last week, but it seems like it is taking shorter amounts of time for the IR to occur when I am using the dark gray Apple wallpaper. So it's going back this weekend and hopefully I can get an SJA2 or Samsung panel.

In my post I say "so far" because I am aware that it can happen anytime...

Then return it and buy something else.

You might be getting 2012 votes in here. Maybe you should re-edit your OP and emphasize early 2013 models only.

Well, the thread title says Early 2013 but just to be sure I will add the word "ONLY". Thanks for the suggestion.

No IR, tried the test. Is it almost a guarantee for IR to develop on the SJA1, or is it a lotto where some will never get it?

Just purchased this yesterday, 2.7/16/512.

I seen much more IR when I close Safari and have a look to the Dashboard (not used as a Space) than with mitch online test. The address bar is most time very visible. With the online test, square are barely visible.

Does this applies to rMBP 13" Early 2013?

I tried apply the same command in terminal, it does not work for me.

There is no known Terminal command for the 13" MacBooks, unfortunately.

Since the rMBP 13" & 15" are different models we will gather data only for one, which happens to be the 15" in this case, in order for this poll to be as accurate as possible. It would be very helpful if you can post a similar poll for the 13", assuming you can identify the panel id.

Today I tried the terminal command on 2010 MBP 13 (success) & 2012 MBA 13 (failure).

These sites are helpful for screen tests:

Swapped my original 2.7/16/512 from BestBuy with a new unit, now have the Samsung screen. Had an issue with my original unit where the Thunderbolt ports were extremely loose.

This one is also fine or *fun* :

I will try with my Retina later. With my office desktop, I reach as low as 12 (lower is better). Not too bad for my eyes and my screen.

Previously had a rev.1 LG screen (with IR) - from a rMBP bought a few weeks after release. I brought it for repair today, and got a Samsung panel. The Samsung panel was badly calibrated out of the box, but I fixed that... the new screen shows no IR.
