Next gen consoles (360-Ps3) to cinema display 23" ?

Just wondering, do you beleive it will be possible to send a 1080i or 1080p signal using the avalaible adapters to a cinema display 23 at full res? There is like a 80 pixels difference...

Im freaking out at the idea of having a ps3 on that awesome monitor.

FYI, Xbox 2 connects through VGA, ACDs are DVI.

Damn that suck the xbox 360 only support analog on release...

Anyway I wanted to get the ps3... But the real question I had in mind is more like this now:

When you plug hdmi into the cinema display, does the display adjust to fit the best resolution, or does it fit the resolution it can just under?

1080i is 1920x1080 while the cinema display support 1920x1200...

Nevermind, I think I just understood looking at the apple site, its called Cinema HD display (Must support HD tv I guess) ... NICE

Not exactly true. Just because Apple labels the monitor as "HD", doesn't mean it supports HDTV.

Seeing as how the PS3 will support HDTV resolutions, you need to find out whether the 23" ACD supports them as well. I just check the tech spec at Apple and they don't mention supporting HDTV signals. What you need to look for is 1920x1080@60hz.

Alternatively, you could buy a real 22"/23" HDTV (although you'd be hardpressed to find 1920x1080) for less money. And it would probably have a faster response time (good for video games). The older Samsung LTP227W can be had for less than $800 these days and I do believe that they have component and DVI inputs (no HDMI).

Im looking for that combo aswell, a 26"-28" HDTV, that supports 1920*1080 + HDCP (for my Future Sky + HD box) + a <16ms response time, These tvs dont exist apparently

(Have been searching for a long time)

dell 2405

the dell 2405 is 24" rather than 23", has DVI and component in, and supports 1080i and 720p... (complete with picture in picture).

Plus, if you look on dealmac, you can get it for like 300 bucks less than the cinema display. a little black magic marker action, and that dell logo is gone...

Nice call. I've heard lots of great reviews for the Dell 24". I didn't realize that it can take 720p/1080i. But just to clarify my first post, I didn't mean to say that the 23"ACD doesn't take 720p/1080i, just that I hadn't heard one way or another.

I'm 99% sure it doesn't. It seems to work with the Dell, even with a HDMI -> DVI cable. You prob could get it to work with a scaler, but that's just adding more cost...

It's most likely moot, since most things putting out DVI for HDTV will use HDCP, which neither support - i don't think any computer montitor does. Note how in the post below, the preview channels are blacked out - HDCP in action. Blu-ray/HDDVD will definitely support this as well, so i'd get it as a monitor first and tv second... unclear about xbox 360 or PS3...

Basicly after reading a bit on the net, it might work but not using the full screen, so to do that you need an hardware scaler. There is a scaler inside the dell monitor I beleive.

Thx, but thats for vga monitors, not digitals.

I guess when the playstation 3 is released someone will make an adapter for it if there is any problem.

Sorry for bumping this up again, but I found an adapter that can translate HDTV on the old ADC apple cinema displays, so I guess it would work on the new ones also.

HDCP monitors

Samsung makes 3 LCD PC monitors with HDCP DVI ports as well as other tv features. The 930MP, 940MW, and 242MP. The 242MP sounds closest to what you want. It was originally nearly $5000 upon release, but can now be had for around $1500 if you shop around.
