Question about USB wireless mouse

Just bought a 15" PB, which arrived yesterday -- love it! -- and so decided to use the small Targus wireless mouse that I had for my old WIN XP laptop. Plugged the dongle into one of the USB ports, did the "registering" thing between mouse and dongle....and nada. Doesn't work. It has fresh batteries and it works just fine in the old laptop,as I had just used it a few days ago. I checked the Mouse and Keyboard things in System Preferences but didn't see anything that I needed to change. Any idea of what I'm missing here? I will be getting a BT mouse for this thing soon, just haven't gotten to the store yet. Any advice or suggestions will be welcome, as I really don't like using an old wired mouse or the trackpad. Thanks!

OTB

Try USB Overdrive or Steer Mouse,... and also try your other USB ports on your compy with either (or try both) of those software.

macupdate.com will have them if you use the search field.
