If you upload photos or videos on Facebook, does it preserve the raw files?

Or does it compress the files?

What about YouTube? If you upload a video on YouTube and then later find that you accidentally deleted the original copy on your hard drive, and so download the one uploaded on YouTube would it be the same or compressed?
