I am quite new to macbooks but have enjoyed fixing them recently, However i have a mystery (to me !!) I have tried getting this answer from my mate Google but no luck

Early 2009 Macbook ...little bit water damage

i have cleaned it...now powers on BUT only by two ways

1 battery

if powering this way , i can then attach magsafe and pull out battery and the laptop continues to stay on BUT if i leave the battery in It will NOT charge

2 power adapter

pressing power button then, pull off adapter then, put adapter back WHILST continuing to press the power button, then release power button and then press it once

when powering on this way the laptop comes on with fans running fast
this was an smc reset attempt (erroneously) But its the only way to turn it on with the power adapter in

I have tried SMC RESET (properly! lol)
PRAM zap
I have replaced the magsafe DC Board with correct model/revison NEW!!!!
used different adapter and tested adapters with other macbook
orange light on magsafe occasionally blinking

I am at a lost please help...I would like to know also what the funny procedure i have stumbled across/using to turn it is called? ...It works every time with the fans blazing

Thanks for your help
