Hi guys,

I have a University presentation tomorrow on how I present myself as a professional and part of the criteria is having to have an online presence. The bare minimum was a Linkedin profile but I have decided to try and use my website.

If I could get some feedback on it good or bad although it will probably mostly be bad as it has all come together a bit rushed!

Not really settled on good category titles yet but I am keen to separate my videos/film photography/digital photography but not quite sure how to yet!

Any help would be much appreciated and I would make it up to you however I can! In fact if you want any critique on some of your photos post one here and I will offer some thoughts if you want.

Here is a link to my site.

Cheers!

Not bad! Images are nice and it was relatively user friendly.

I would lose the "Welcome" section because it does the same think as just clicking your name and it's not necessarily a page I'd be concerned with people being able to find again. I'd also swap out the image as it is by far not your best. It's not bad but you've definitely got stronger shots to pick from. If there's any way to make it larger, that would be great too. If not, I'd suggest making one of your galleries the landing page instead for more impact.

I know you're keen to separate film and digital but I feel this separation will be lost on your viewers since your film style isn't all that different from your digital. If all of your film was shot on Tri-X 400, for example, then maybe it would work better. I think a Portrait/Landscape/Street, etc. style grouping would be easier to follow. Or B&W/Color. Either way, "Film Photography" and "Film" is confusing. Perhaps "Video" for clarity or "Moving Pictures" if you want to be a bit more stylish.

Overall I would say prune the photos a little. You've got a couple of shots in each section that are very similar to one another. I would take the best from each setting/model combo and run with that, as well as a few weaker ones that could be removed altogether.

Best of luck!

Best of luck!

Thanks a bunch for the feedback. If you want critique on anything just let me know!

First off can I ask did it all seem to load at an acceptable pace? I am on a really slow connection here and can't really tell if it's my site or my paranoia!

I have removed "Welcome" as suggested and changed "Film" to "Video". As nice as "Moving Picture" is it may confuse people as a lot of my friends wouldn't click that a video is made up of frames repeating each second.

I think in the future I will need to sit down with someone and have them help me prune as I have obviously got too attached to some shots. The reason there are a couple of similar shots is that at the moment I fear that it is on the low side in terms of number of photos and I was trying to bulk it up a bit.

I am about to break for summer and hopefully have the opportunity to take plenty more shots so I might have to cull some after that.

I think I also get a bit to attached to my film photos because I have taken them and developed them under the stairs and I feel like I want people to know the effort I have gone into. I think I will have to stand back and just realise that they don't really care. A good point you have made and once I have my new bunch of photos together I will look at a more portraits/landscape/people style of categories.

Thanks again for the great feedback.

EDIT: out of interest do you have any suggestions for the opening image?

No problem, glad I could help. Here's a little more feedback about the images specifically with respect to some very basic pruning. All my opinion of course, take it or leave it. Fewer categories could help alleviate the issue of looking "light".

Choose one of these (first looks like an outtake):

http://archiecampbell.co.uk/film-photography/scan-120920-0018-jpg (*)

Choose one or two of these:

http://archiecampbell.co.uk/digital-photography/img_0639-jpg (*)
http://archiecampbell.co.uk/digital-photography/img_0638-jpg

Chose one of these (they looked mirrored at first glance, opt for one without cord):

http://archiecampbell.co.uk/digital-photography/img_0607-jpg

Remove these (they look like snapshots compared to the rest of your work):

Suggestions for opening shot (depends on who you are targeting, of course):

Wow. Once again thanks for the great help!

I have culled a few of your suggestions although I have kept hold of a few.

I have a new opening image from your selection and have also added a link to my linked in profile on my contact page (looks out of place but I will probably get extra marks for it).

My video page seems to have gone AWOL to I will have to see to that now!

Thanks again!

Hey acearchie,

Nice website, I think it looks great! Mind if I ask what camera you use for film and what you use for digital?

Thanks for checking it out. Film us a Hasselblad 500CM and most of the digital shots are a Canon 600D with a couple from my new 6D.

Looking good Archie.

I like to know something about a photographer in the form of a bio and possibly an artist's statement type thing. Not overly detailed but more than you have posted. I'm not on LinkedIn so going there for information about you doesn't help.

It loads fast on my crappy work PC with Internet Explorer 8. Everything loads but can't click on links lol :p
