I splashed some wine on my 8 month old MBAIR. The Apple Store said there was liquid damage and it needed a motherboard. It turns on, the battery charges, it is picking up my emails but when I click on anything, the beachball spins, then goes away and I cannot open anything. Could it be something other than the motherboard? Should I get a second opinion? is it worth fixing, depending on what it is, or should I sell it for parts?

Get a second opinion. The good folks at Apple have a tendency to replace the main parts and call it fixed. Quite often what they do is expeditious but unnecessary. PowerBook Medic is a good choice in my experience. Also, ask other Apple users you know if there is a local Apple specialist who could take a look at it for you.
Have you tried a USB mouse to see if the issue is the trackpad? If a USB mouse works fine, it could be the trackpad or the logicboard where the trackpad connects.

I put an ad on Kijiji yesterday for $400.00 -three people want to meet this morning to take a look at it. I don't know whether to take the money and run or roll the dice and repair if reasonable and hope it keeps working long term.

I sold it for $400 and he emailed me after that he got it "up and running after a few tweaks"-whatever than means. I had second thoughts as to whether I should have repaired a very new computer-but you roll the dice-you never know if it will stop working down the road due to corrosion.
