Apple's OS training and courses - worth while?

Hey,
I was thinking on getting the osx training book and taking the on-line exams. Has anybody done it and could share some info on the process? Were you able to find a job (even a temp one) in an apple store, or just helping folks (for pay, obviously).

I think on doing it and buying a 2nd hand macbook so I could do all the experiments on it, instead on my own machine
