How do you use templates?

I tried making a Power Mac template ( at Template:PowerMac) but it doesn't work so well when I try to apply it to a page-- I end up editing the template and not the page.

Help?

I think you may be a little confused about the purpose of templates. Templates, like basedonpost and stub, are used to insert commonly used snippets into an article, often using parameters to alter what they display as.

The way you're using them, you'd need a parameter for almost every line of your template, which is not practical (it would produce fairly ugly looking code when editing the article).

Hopefully this will clear things up a little.

From what it seems you're trying to do, {{subst:PowerMac}} might work for you. That will copy the template into the article instead of including it dynamically. Then you can edit just your article after saving.

That is what I was looking for! Thanks. I was using Template much like Pages uses it, and most other applications. Cool.
