Today my new iMac arrives :) I will want to migrate all my apps and stuff over from my 2011 Mac Mini (using Migration Assistant, I assume.)

Currently I have an 256GB SSD and 1TB hard disk in my Mini. All my programs are on the SSD and all my data - music, pictures etc are on the HD.

My new iMac has only a 256GB SSD inside. I am putting all my data on an external 4TB hard disk.

How do I ensure when I do the migration that my Aperture Library and iTunes library (for example) end up on my new external hard disk. I don't want Migration Assistant trying to put 700GB of data onto my new SSD!

I wonder if some wise soul could offer some advice please?

I should add that my iTunes library file is currently on my SSD but the music files themselves are on the hard disk.

Basically all I want to do is to swap my entire Mac Mini over to the new iMac "as is", and am wondering what is the easiest way to do it.

With the Migration Assistant, you can specify what you want to Migrate.

Make sure that you have another external disk to backup your data.
