Anyone know how to keep keyboard backlight off when using touchpad

I set my backlight timer to the lowest possible setting to save battery, but it still unnecessarily comes on as soon as I touch the trackpad.

If we can figure out a way to keep it off until a key is pressed i think we could get a some decent battery savings. I looked for apps that would do this but can't find any, does anyone know if there are terminal commands we can use or some other way?
