Backup Process for iOS 7

If I go to settings/icloud/storage and backup,

icloud back up is grey and won't let me toggle to on.
Assume this is intentional for beta?

Did this happen for iOS 6 beta?

I'm afraid to attempt a itunes HD back up.
A) Don't know if it will work
B) It usually overwrites your last backup, opposed to an incremental.
Is it possible that since it's new software, it would create "new" ?

I'm too afraid to try, as if it "over writes" then for some reason it's not compatible or you have to downgrade, you're screwed.

Anyone else notice this yet?

Lastly, if you can't icloud back up, what happens what the master version comes out?

A) If it lets you just update, then you can back up, no issue
B) If it requires a full software restore, and you can't backup, would it force you to restore a backup from prior to the beta release, which at that time could be 3 months old?

Make a copy of your iTunes backup and put it somewhere else on your computer, then backup. That way if it overwrites you still have a copy of the original. Also, iCloud backup works on my iPhone 5 running iOS 7, I turned it off though.

Good idea, a back up of a back up doesn't hurt.

Figured out the problem...
I had noticed that in the camera roll it keeps saying"downloading" and there are dozens of pictures that are missing, just showing a grey box labeled "JPEG"

It popped up last night and said:
"This iphone is currently being restored and will automatically back up when done"

I had deleted photos manually before my backup,
I wonder if that freaked it out and it kept trying to find them,
And the "attempt to restore" in the background prevented my backup ability.

Conclusion,
ios 7 icloud backup = OK
ios 6 itunes backup (hard drive) = won't back up (keep ios 6)
Back up the back up folder just in case

Every year I run beta software I never bother about backups. There are probably so many unseen bugs in the backups. I like to clean install after the GM comes out.

But who knows backups came a long way. Who remembers how long they use to take on the original iPhone.

I still wish in itunes they'd give you the option of:

New backup
Incremental backup (delete old)

Seems like in time machine you can go backwards,
But the ios backup is a 1 or nothing thing.

I have a few weird backups, like from 2011, and 2012, my guess is it creates a new when new software is released?

Additional backups, chosen by date you select, would be great

How do you backup the backup in itunes. WHen i get to devices i see Archive and show in finder. Do i just copy the folder. Or can I just press archive and itll always show up in my backups?

Click 'show in finder' and drag the folder inside of "Backup" to your desktop or wherever you like. Or you can leave it in there and duplicate it instead and move the copy somewhere else. It doesn't really matter. The point is just to have a good copy of your backup somewhere where iTunes won't tamper with it. I just noticed in iTunes you can right-click on the backup and there is an archive option. That may be an easier way to accomplish the same thing. I'm not 100% sure though.
