What!? lol Thats the new AirPort Extreme ;)

It is…

But with the direction the Mac Pro and The Airport/Time Capsule, I would not be surprised if the Mini get the same treatment.

Who knows! :)

Edit: Did not see the other thread discussing this possibility already! :D

The mac pro became smaller. You are picking up the wrong cues here. If you said flash storage only I might believe you. I think that is still pretty far out. It's often used as a media server. I'm not sure what percentage of its sales is derived from that. I don't mean the designated server model either, as even the base model is perfectly fine for that purpose. IO is important for such a use case. CPU power is not so much. Anyway if it's significant, they wouldn't want to constrain internal space too much.

high priced gear but small. give it 2 years and more gpu development. it does not compare to the 2012 quad core yet

here is a kit

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/908807-REG/intel_boxdc3217by_desktop_board_dc3217by.html

300 bucks
150 add windows pro oem
100 add 2 sticks of 8gb ram
200 add a 250gb msata ssd
750 total

still need a wf fi card so 50 more grand total is 800 a lot of coin for a clearly inferior cpu in comparison to the 2012 quad mini.

now if this came with this cpu

http://ark.intel.com/products/75114/Intel-Core-i7-4650U-Processor-4M-Cache-up-to-3_30-GHz

the gear would have very good potential

I'll be nice and not put up the ****** link,

http://www.engadget.com/2013/06/03/gigabyte-shows-four-prototype-brix-mini-pcs/

Unlike the NUC you can put i3/i5/i7 in.

still has a low version cpu the best cpu while the intel i7 is the i7-3537u.

http://ark.intel.com/products/72054

2012 mini has this

http://ark.intel.com/products/64891/Intel-Core-i7-3720QM-Processor-6M-Cache-up-to-3_60-GHz

or this

http://ark.intel.com/products/64900/Intel-Core-i7-3615QM-Processor-6M-Cache-up-to-3_30-GHz

but it looks like it could put this in the next model

http://ark.intel.com/products/75992/Intel-Core-i7-4558U-Processor-4M-Cache-up-to-3_30-GHz

still a dual core but a very good gpu. to me spending the money gigabyte wants for the top end model and getting 4000 gpu the same as a mini 4000 gpu I would take the mini. i can price out the gigabtye give me 1 minute. this model is the lower end cpu and it is 431. not sure what comes with it.

http://www.amazon.com/GIGABYTE-GB-X...&qid=1371435925&sr=8-4&keywords=gigabyte+brix

http://ark.intel.com/products/72055/Intel-Core-i5-3337U-Processor-3M-Cache-up-to-2_70-GHz

apple needs to worry about these when they get the 4th gen cpu's not quite good enough with the third gen cpu

UPDATE FOR PRICES
_______________________________________________________________________________

I FOUND A gigabyte brix i5 3337u for 379

a 256gb crucial msata ssd for --------- 205

16gb ram for --------- 122

windows 7 pro oem for ---------- 137

total-------------------------------------843

I can get a 15% discount for about 2 more hours total cost 717.

or a 2012 quad mini for 779
16gb ram for ------- 122
a 256gb ssd for -------- 168

total----------------------1069

same discount of 15% good for 2 more hours makes total 908

I rather have the mini.

I also think I would need a wi fi part for the gigabyte so it may be more like 750 vs 910 .

I get far more storage with the mini far better cpu same graphics. But if that gigabyte had the 4th gen graphics a hd5100 gpu it would be a nice machine. next model should be looked at.

Yeah, I think the Brix are a bit pricey, but then again so are the Mini solutions.

Competition will be good for all of us though.

I HAVE TO AGREE.

intel nuc
gigabyte brix
zotac zbox

all are decent gear closer to the mini. in fact the zotax zbox can come with an i7 3770t cpu it may be more powerful then any mini

http://www.legitreviews.com/news/15621/ this is most likely the king of small pc's

more info

http://rigmods.com/wp/blog/zotac-doubles-zbox-processing-power-with-the-zbox-id90-series/

frankly this is really strong machine. I do not know the price. if this works well then the door will be open to true killer machines. look at the specs and just think how much better it would be with the newer 4th gen cpus.

Depends on what the goal for these systems are. If it's something along the lines of a very small workstation with the CPU on the back of the for something like a call center or most office workers the lower end works fine.

When you start getting into more compute intensive requirements then you'd be pushed over into more traditinally sized systems.

Honestly, an Asus NetTop with dual core Atoms would serve me well for some basic services around my house.

Why should they use the i7-xxxxU version, and not one of the i7-xxxxHQ or i7-xxxxMQ processors?

okay both the intel nuc and or the gigabyte brix would melt using the i7-xxxxHQ or I7-xxxxMQ cpus.

the u chips are under 20 watts. the ones you picked are more then double that

u chip 15 watts 5000 gpu

http://ark.intel.com/products/75114/Intel-Core-i7-4650U-Processor-4M-Cache-up-to-3_30-GHz

mq chip 37 watts 4600 gpu
http://ark.intel.com/products/75119/Intel-Core-i7-4702MQ-Processor-6M-Cache-up-to-3_20-GHz

the hq is also 37 watts and up.

_>_>_>_>_>_>_>_>_>_>_>_>_>_>_>_>_>_>_>_>_>_-----------------------------

the zotac is big like the mini (wow big like the mini that is weird)

it now has the 3770t this machine would be more powerful then any current mini

http://www.zotac.com/en/news/press-...icle/ZOTAC-Doubles-ZBOX-Processing-Power.html

just released I do not know prices. it also has last years really good low power desktop cpu the 3770t.

http://ark.intel.com/products/65525/Intel-Core-i7-3770T-Processor-8M-Cache-up-to-3_70-GHz

if this gear is a big hit and works well they could use this chip as a quad

http://ark.intel.com/products/75125/Intel-Core-i7-4770T-Processor-8M-Cache-up-to-3_70-GHz or this chip

and this as a pretty good gamer.

http://ark.intel.com/products/76085/Intel-Core-i7-4950HQ-Processor-6M-Cache-up-to-3_60-GHz

these machines would

be really nice. but like I said they just built the small 3770t model on june 3rd of this year.. the 3770t cpu is very good but it is around 1 year old.

it does mean that a lot of machines will be pushing the mini maybe a nicer mini will come out in time for mavericks os. in the late fall NOV 1st -15th?

No big loss. ;-)

The 2012 Mac mini CPUs have a 45 W TDP. The 2013 Haswell versions have integrated voltage regulators, and have a 47 W TDP, AFAIK.

Either i'm blind or i do not see the problem in this configuration!? Where is the error?

no not at all I thought your question was about the intel nuc and or gigabyte brix.

the new mini when built could have a mq or hq cpu. I would hope they do.

this would be the best of the best

http://ark.intel.com/products/76085/Intel-Core-i7-4950HQ-Processor-6M-Cache-up-to-3_60-GHz

47 watts vs current 45 watts could be dealt with and it has a really big gpu improvement.

The top end 2013 mini with this cpu as the BTO would be very nice.

It would also blow away the current 2012 top end mini in graphics.

This machine would be worth waiting for as the cpu has 3rd quarter release.

this a 500 dollar cpu ( I may have seen a price on anandtech) So this is a lot to hope for.

Only trouble is it will make the Mini a lot more expensive.

http://ark.intel.com/products/64900/Intel-Core-i7-3615QM-Processor-6M-Cache-up-to-3_30-GHz - $378

http://ark.intel.com/products/76086/Intel-Core-i7-4850HQ-Processor-6M-Cache-up-to-3_50-GHz - $468*

http://ark.intel.com/products/76085/Intel-Core-i7-4950HQ-Processor-6M-Cache-up-to-3_60-GHz - $657*

*Anandtech's prices http://www.anandtech.com/show/7002/hit-the-road-jack-intels-mobile-quadcore-haswell-skus

A top of the line BTO version is almost $300 more expensive for 0.1Ghz improvement.

For UK users that would make the Mini mid-range Mac Mini start at roughly £769.

I don't think it's a big stretch to assume that the next Mac Mini could get a form factor change and the new Airport Extremes and Time capsules suggest Apple might be going tall and thin rather than flat and thin.

I would go as far as suggesting there will be a new design Mini this year that goes tall and thin like the Airport Extreme. Cylindrical would be nice but unlikely.

My predicted Mac Mini 2013 loses the double drive bays in favour of a PCIe Blade like in the Macbook Air and Mac Pro 2013 but retains a single 2.5" drive bay in case the consumer would like a Fusion drive or a low end model with just the hard drive.

It also loses Firewire 800 in favour of a second Thunderbolt port (just like the Mac Pro 2013). If it gets updated at the same time as the Macbook Pros (by October at the latest) then it will only get Thunderbolt 1 ports which is one way of differentiating the Mac Pro from the rest of the Apple range for 2013.

If Apple are happy to lose a few MHz of cpu to accommodate a better iGPU then the improved graphics will still bump the price up. Everything with a good GPU seems to be $90 more expensive than a similar Ivy Bridge chip with HD4000 graphics.
