Today, in an interview with the Financial Times, Huawei’s Richard Yu stated that his company is “open-minded” to purchasing Nokia. The direct quote: “We are considering these sorts of acquisitions; maybe the combination has some synergies but depends on the willingness of Nokia. We are open-minded.”

The Financial Times caught up with Yu ahead of the launch event for the Ascend P6 device in London.

Yu went on to discuss Windows Phone, a key platform for Nokia, as having “very small market share.” He also said that the fact that the platform requires “a licence fee” is “not good.” Android, he stated, is free.

I don't know what would happen from Microsoft if this were to happen. Judging by the interview, Richard Yu didn't seem to receptive to Windows phone at all (although he must have forgotten that Microsoft are chasing them for some monies!.

Thoughts on this? Could be a big hit to Windows Phone if Huawei were able to do the deed and change Nokia's current direction.

/Dreaming of a Nokia Android device....

It won't happen, Microsoft's more likely to buy them first if it comes down to it.

May not even come to that!

Chinese network equipment and cellphone maker Huawei Technologies Co said it "has no plans to acquire Nokia", responding to a Financial Times report that it would consider buying the Finish phone maker.

That was a flash in the pan! Did good for Nokia shareholders for a while though:

Nokia isn't for sale, is funded by the EU, and is to Finland what Swatch is to Switzerland

If a company from China wants to do a hostile takeover, they're gonna hit a ton of walls

Yup I read this week that negotiations between MS and Nokia regarding an acquisition fell apart recently so looks like Nokia will continue to ride solo
