Note taking software for a Mac

Hey all,

I'll be entering college in the fall and I was wondering what note taking software would be best for business and engineering?
 
I have Office 2008 on my MBP, and there's a layout in Word for notes. It's works great for my history classes. Not sure if 2011 does the same thing, but it's likely.

I'm not an engineering major, but my understanding is that the best note taking for those classes is old fashioned pen and paper. Formulas and things like that are a challenge to type out quickly. For business you'll probably be fine typing for the most part.
 
Is there anything apart from Microsoft Office that's user friendly? Something like OneNote maybe? Because I know that OneNote isn't available on Mac, which is unfortunate really.
 
I use Evernote... it's cloud based and syncs very well between Mac, Windows, and iOS. It allows formatted text (bold, italics, bullets, ext.) and will work offline, then syncs when I get a WiFi spot. And it's FREE!
 
I've managed to get a copy of OmniOutliner Pro and Circus Ponies Notebook. Any opinions on these two?

I'd recommend trying Evernote on the App Store which is free, at least until you need a lot of data storage. I've yet to exceed that so haven't ever needed to pay anything. It's a wonderful, versatile way to keep notes and organize them as well as search through them. It offers basic text formatting and recently they've added some nice features like reminders to it. You might find it is enough.

When I moved to Mac, Evernote replaced OneNote in Windows for me so maybe it can for you as well. Again, it costs you zero and a small download to find out for yourself.

Learning curve for Circus Ponies Notebook is too steep. I've used it, off and on, for about 10 years. I've had OmniOutliner and while I like the idea of it... For me, both of them don't fit in how I think...

I live on Evernoe. It's amazing and getting better every update.

If you want the top of the heap... Look at DEVONthink Pro...

personally - I use notes.app. I use it because I believe in using apples default software - can't delete it so might as well make the best of it.

Evernote is better though, especially for images and textography/formatting. It's probably your best bet.

Though, I always recommend giving notes.app an honest gentlemans try though. I'm a power user and I've developed a way of using inline hash tags and markdown to organize everything..
