Rep. Tammy Duckworth Dresses down "Disabled" IRS Contractor

All I can say on this is watch, and where is that Standing Ovation image when you need it.

I'll pull in the whole story as well.

WATCH: Rep. Tammy Duckworth Dresses Down IRS Contractor

by Eyder Peralta
June 27, 2013 2:08 PM

It is one of those rare Congressional exchanges that's both dramatic and compelling: Yesterday during a House Oversight Committee hearing, Rep. Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.), who lost her legs and use of her right arm when she served in Iraq, dressed down an IRS contractor who used his military disability status to receive government contracts reserved for disabled vets.

The catch? The Military Times reports Braulio Castillo claimed disability based on an injury he sustained at the U.S. Military Preparatory School nearly 30 years ago. The Times reports that Castillo broke his foot at the prep school, but went on to play football in college.

Duckworth pounced. It's worth watching the whole thing.
Enjoy.

I always interpreted that scene as ironic. I.e. the performance being applauded in the film was somewhere between mediocre and dismal, but there was a social/personal need for Kane to visibly express fervent support.

I'll have to rewatch "Citizen Kane" and see if I'm misremembering.

On rare occasions the folks in Washington get it right!

She certainly got it right.

That is an ass kicking of epic proportions...

I'll be honest, I generally use the gif without the context. I just found the look on Wells' face had such an earnestness to it as he clapped, plus most people my age and younger have never watched Citizen Kane.

(But you're right about the context in the film)

Rosebud was his sled. There, I just saved you two of the most over rated hours in the history of cinema.

Oh I've watched the monstrosity.... twice. I dated a girl in college who truly believed it was the greatest film ever made. I struggled through pretty much the entirety of Ingmar Bergman's filmography as well, because, well... she was hot, and I was thinking with my hormones. -.-

Only good thing she introduced me to was Stanley Kubrick.

I watched the clip right through and she was amazing. Oh on Kubrick, his Clockwork Orange was right up there too.

Agreed. I was thinking there's a brief scene in "A Clockwork Orange" where Alex is slow-applauding something. It may be where Billy Boy has a horrorshow devotchka on the stage in an abandoned theater, ready for a bit of the old in-out in-out.

Looks like my movie schedule for the weekend is filling up fast.

I had no idea getting injured in West Point Prep qualifies for disabled vet status.

What kills me, this twatwaffle has supporters! For fun, my dad will listen to conservative talk radio and there are people using wonderful language to describe Rep Duckworth, acting like this contractor is some kind of victim.

As Congressman Issa said in response to Duckworth thanking him for talking past her allotted time, "It was time well spent."

Good on Congressman Issa.

And especially, good on Congresswoman Duckworth.

Mr. Castillo can now slink back into the hole from which he came.

That might have been me. I had some really good maple-cured baked beans with sloppy joes last night.

Here's what I found in a pinch. And some are not good.

I think you owe someone an apology for trying to call them out as a liar.

Umm...seems like a pretty Pro-Duckworth article to me.

I probably disagree with Ms. Duckworth way more than I agree with her politically , but I would give her a standing ovation for what she said to this piece of scum. Well done, Ms. Duckworth, well done.

Ahh.. but he didn't mention anything about the article.. he was referring to the comments the people were making about her after her grilling. And if you look further into the blogosphere and sites like Fox, you'll find similar.

Kinda hard to link you to radio programs, but hey, if you're going to call me a liar because I can't. Go ahead. I've been called worse.

Thank you for finding stuff. I would link to what I'd heard, but it's rather difficult to link to an AM radio broadcast (I'm guessing Mr Haxrnick didn't actually read my post).

Oh and it's "she", I know, I have a guy's first name, and with web anonymity and all, it's hard to know who is what in the real world.

No better or worse than comments that I see on left leaning websites.

Each side has nasty trolls.

Of course you (may) choose to turn a blind eye to the left wing trolls and say your side and think you are squeaky clean and correct.

Just like many on the right turns a blind eye to their trolls, think they are squeaky clean and correct.

Thats the overall agenda of both parties, divide , divide , divide let no one stay in the middle.

Early in my life 15-25 I bought the Democrats crap hook line and sinker, 25-38 I bought the republicans crap hook line and sinker. Now I realize both sides are full of crap and I think for myself, and support both sides depending what I think, not what they try to ram down my throat.

I am pro-gay rights, i am pro-life, i am pro-immigration, i am pro-2nd amendment, i think bush and obama are the 2 worst presidents in history. Both sides dislike, me and I like that.

Don't need to "quote" me not going to be responding to partisan trolls on either side. I normally avoid this section like the plague. I just wanted to give my thumbs up to Ms. Duckworth, and if Mr. Issa had been in the same situation and said the same thing, my response would of been identical.
