Dismissing auto-correct?

Just wondering if anyone has found a more convenient workaround for this. Before iOS7, when typing a word that auto-corrected incorrectly (for example "its" auto-correcting to "it's") it was possible to cancel the autocorrect by overtyping a single letter and then backspacing (e.g., "itss" and then backspace the second S, leaving "its" intact). In iOS 7, this behavior has been modified so that the only way to dismiss the autocorrect is to tap the autocorrection bubble in the text field, which is much slower and more cumbersome than being able to keep your fingers on/near the keyboard.

Has anyone else noticed this? Is there a workaround?

Can't you hit anywhere in the text box to cancel it like always? Typing a letter and back spacing seems slower.

I just tried and it doesn't work - pressing elsewhere in the field causes it to autocorrect.
