I bought the 27" Thunderbolt display and I was wondering if I can take it to a local store for return if I decide not to keep it. I'd rather not ship it back due to its size and cost, unless Apple pays for return ship, which is unlikely.

Yep, Just bring the receipt with it and they'll refund it to the original method of Payment... Did this with and unwanted iPad (already had a first gen and didn't need to upgrade).... It was painless as well as easy

Not at Best Buy

Bought a Panasonic Bluray on BB.com
Remote control enclosed was wrong one.
BB store refused to exchange.
With CS it took 3 weeks after I returned it to BB

Believe it or not, Apple does pay for return shipping.

IF the online stores mentions in condition applied * -asterik than only you can exchanhge or return or refund your purchase whether from store or from an online store.
