Set up remote file sharing for access by Goodreader?

I have a ton of reading material and scanned comics sitting in my external hard drive, which is connected to an always-on iMac running OS X 10.8, and it is connected to the Internet via AirPort Extreme. I can access the hard drive with my iPad through Goodreader when I'm at home, but I would like to access my files remotely. I got File Sharing and Remote Login activated in my Sharing preference, and Remote Login lets me see my home directory, but not my external hard drive. What can I do so I can access my hard drive through Goodreader?
