PA Sheriff holding town hostage.

http://www.addictinginfo.org/2013/08...-town-hostage/

So it looks like the insane Sheriff from PA and his nutcase followers are basically holding the town hostage, and threatening anyone who disagrees with his views, even turning away people who disagree with his views at gunpoint at town meetings.

Assuming this source is true, why has the National Guard not been called in to prevent these nut jobs from stopping citizens from exercising their 1st amendment rights. If need be, deploy troops in front of the town hall meetings to stop the nut jobs from intimidating upstanding citizens exercising their 1st amendment rights.

Also, making terror threats and attempting to run families out of town isn't a good thing either.

His 'public service' days have got to be numbered. It wouldn't surprise me he lands in jail soon.

Well, once he freaks out and kills a family who's thinking the wrong way, he will end up in jail.

If this article is true, Gilberton, PA desperately needs some U.S. Marshals to step in and restore civil rights and arrest those who are making threats towards officials. Why isn't the Governor of Pennsylvania acting?

I don't think it will even take that.

IIRC, in most states, a Town or county Sheriff is an elected office. All it would take would be the signatures to impeach or throw that sheriff out. Even more so, the State or federal government could get involved, similar to Central High School in Little Rock during desegregation.

I'm hoping the townspeople stand up.

How do people like this get into positions of authority in the first place? Further, shouldn't this particular case start calling into question the mental state of the people who are paid to protect the citizenry, both local and national?

I always believed that it takes a certain type of person to after authoritarian positions of power. Only the confine of laws keeps these sorts of people in check.

This is America.

Any little boy or girl can grow up to be certifiably nuts and hold public office.

This sort of nonsense is the result of years of pandering and incendiary hate-filled garbage spewed by right-wing talk radio (Limbaugh, Levin, etc.) and TV (Hannity, Glenn Beck, Fox News in general.)

None of these commentators ever has the guts - let alone the common decency - to throw some cold water on the deluded paranoia of the NRA and the sort of kooks and gun nuts that make up a large fraction of their audience.

Lets be very clear about this: There isn't any real problem or issue facing this town, at least one that's not made by the "Police Chief" and his nutjob followers. They aren't being taxed to death, starving, or having their homes and businesses ransacked by shadowy FBI agents.

We've spent most of the last twelve years supposedly fighting a "War on Terror." Well guess what? Having a bunch of vigilantes brandishing AR-15s looks a lot like "terrorism" to me. We don't need the Taliban or Al-Quaeda to destroy our freedom. We've got criminals and maniacs like Chief Kessler and his co-conspirators to do the job for them.

The Governer of PA is extremely right wing, I doubt he'll do anything.

I feel that the federal government needs to be involved, even if it means sending in the US Marshall's or the national guard.

His twitter feed is quite hilarious (apart from all the 'Come and see me live' auto-spam). Though I do worry he has some form of palsy and feel a pang of guilt for enjoying myself so much at his expense.

Some of his gems
